Jakarta, counted as the most populated city yet highly polluted too. It shows that the amounts of major, toxic pollutants invading Jakarta air have grown rapidly, along with the continuous increase in vehicles crowding the streets. The Traffic jams are getting more intense, and unfortunately after returning from some places outside Jakarta you may realized how dirty or perhaps sickening, our city is.

With all these bad happenings above in our city, lies a Green Artspace located in Cipete. What is a Green Artspace actually mean?

Sitta, the owner and the founder of the Green Artspace had her studies in Germany in 2000, yet she noticed that the citizens of the country are very environmentally conscious. She had also learn on how to sort the garbage properly during her study there. Then came the idea of why not applying a green life-style here back in my home-country?

“I thought, why not combine art and green technology? People who come here will not only have the chance to enjoy the artworks, but they can also learn a bit more about green buildings.” She said.

Despite, of her small background in arts at first, she don’t mind opening an exhibitions in an environmentally friendly house as she believes that it would be more interesting to reach out various audiences.

Some of the exhibitions focuses on artworks that promotes green life-style or environment and nature. But Green Artspace also open to other themes other than that. Because the idea is to to promote artworks from emerging & mid-career artists.

Green Artspace’s vision is becoming an internationally acknowledged art gallery, not only as an ordinary commercial art gallery, but the one that promotes green living through medium of arts. It also has the mission of promoting works of Indonesian artists internationally.

The Green Artspace also used several eco-friendly elements she said. “We used the old doors and window frames to create a new parquet floor and furniture,”  which uses the idea of 3R. reduce, reuse, and recycle.

As now, people are getting more aware about environmental issues and the need to protect our surroundings are getting more crucial. Things have changed for the better, it’s a good start and thus need to be improved and people need to be aware.
