Have you ever wonder how many variants of food that's inherited in Indonesia? Of course there are a lot more than you'd ever thought before.

 

You might had encountered, or even tasted, plenty local culinary from several places in Indonesia. Surely, this country has a lot of traditional food that become one of its remarkable heritages. But food biodiversity is not only from the dishes itself; it also comes from the spices, ingredients, and other comestibles. All these products absolutely appear in countless varieties, spread all over the nation. 

It's obviously a surprised to know that more than 7,000 varieties of rice among Indonesian archipelago was found until these day. Definitely does not include the typical red or white rice that you eat on your daily basis. And rice is not the only indigenous grocery with number of assortments.

Other form of millets, corn, spices, and bunch of traditional food plants also emerged in heterogeneous amount.  Sadly, due to its lack of popularity, this heritage seems come to extinct.  As demand of certain food plants significantly decreased, local farmers had no choice than to abandoned their farm, move to another business, and one more heritage has lost again.

JAVARA is a movement and creative entrepreneurship that support and celebrate the urge in preserving food biodiversity and culinary traditions.
